JULY 19, 2007...SOREL, CANADA

If we had an extra day we would probably have stayed in Chambly at the marina. The first 2 pictures are of the marina and the landscapping. However, the weather forecast has a lot of rain coming so we needed to keep moving.

The day was overcast, but no rain early. ML sleep in and we left at 10:30, still early enough to make Sorel before the rain.

We were back in the Richelieu river which is wide enough so could cruise at 17 to 20 kts. with the current. We passed a number of churchs, all with silver painted open steeples. There were a lot of cottages and very few towns or services. We only had one lock at St. Ours and this lock had a dock in it to tie up to...plus dock hands to help you. What a treat! The only challenge was getting under the narrow bridge with 5 kt current pushing you from right to left. A little worse then the entry under the Cedar Point bridge to our dock. We kept up the speed and slid neatly through.

Sorel is an inland sea port and is a dying industrial town. Not very pretty. We enter the St. Lawerence Seaway and had to go 1.3 miles east to the marina. The marina was well protected with a break wall, but since all the dock hands were busy we had to dock it alone. We were doing real good, but when ML stepped off the swim platform the dock almost dumped her in the water. The dock was not attached on the end so it rocked under your weight. She gained her balanced, started tying lines and warned me of the problem. It was almost impossible for the two of us to be on the dock together. Once we got our balance and figured out the secret of staying in the middle of the dock we were okey.

It was now 2:30 and lunch was the next task...warm up from the night before. It started raining at 4:00pm and would not let up untill 8:30pm on Friday...28 hours straight. As the day went on the boats started coming in and filled the marina...glad we arrived early.

ML made a great dinner and we relaxed with a bottle of wine...fuel is cheap compared to our wine bill. We are still getting NYC channels on our direct TV dish, so we are enjoying the British Open and regular programming.

This is our most northern point, and we will now start south and west till we reach Sandusky. We must be almost 2000 miles north of the Florida Keys, our southern most point.
