August 3, 2007 And so the repairs begin

Up early to begin the chore of organizing the day to get back to Hurst Marina for the boat to be hauled out. Steve (the guy at the marina) towed us from the dock to deeper water and then took Louie to Smith Falls to pick up a rental car that we would need to take the props to Buckhorn for repairs. This is a long holiday weekend for the Canadians so we had trouble finding a car and also a place to put our heads for the next few nights. The prop shop found us a

Bed and Breakfast.

We headed back towards Hurst Marina which meant going back through the 4 locks we had done just the day before. Louie headed out to get the car and meet us at Hurst Marina.

It took Steph, Craig and I almost five hours to get back. We had to run on the Starboard engine only since the damage was so extensive to the port prop.

Arrived at Hurst and they took the boat out on a trailer. The weight was more than they thought it would be and so they ended up having a tow motor attached to the truck to keep the wheels from popping. Meanwhile Steph, Craig and I were on board and it was scarey as heck. I was sure we were going to flip over.

We threw a few things in a bag and headed for Buckhorn with the props (what was left of them) in the trunk. It was almost a four hour drive and naturally we were too late to drop them off at the prop shop. Looks like tomorrow!!!

We arrived at the B & B (Shambhala) and were taken back slightly. It was in the back country and looked a little scarey. When we got inside it was full of Asian furniture and decorations. It was actually quite interesting and the couple that owned it were delightful. Audrey and Bogie loved Asian things and they filled the house with all sorts of furniture and knick knacks. It was really quite quaint and fun in the end. After a shower we had a glass of wine with the hosts.

We went out to dinnerat Cody Inn and then back to get a good night's sleep. We were all exhausted and ready to chill.
