May 25, 2007 River Forest Marina-Bellhaven, NC
Today was a beautiful day with calm water and plenty of sunshine. We noticed the pine trees were taller now and not so scrubby. The dolphins were everywhere once again. We missed them the past couple of days. Didn't know if we were going to see them again, but sure enough there they were jumping in the wake and slowly surfacing and rolling along. Great to see, but never a chance to get a picture.
When we got to Oriental we had planned on stopping, but kept going since it was a great day to travel. The Neuse River was wide, deep and smooth. We made good time!! It is actually part of the Pamilico Sound.
Goose Creek was equally as large and almost looked like the ocean. It is amazing how the scenery changes in just a few minutes of travel time.
The books tell us that where the Pungo River and the Pamlico Rivers join that we should have some strong currents. We never noticed any if there were any at all.
Ended up at River Forest Marina in Bellhaven. What a shocker that was!! The books make it look like paradise and describe all the wonderful things it has to offer. It was almost a dock and the poor dockhand had little to no knowlege of getting us to the dock. I think he was not the usual dockhand, but he did try his best considering. The wind was strong and the current was swift, so it was a challenge. Craig is an awesome captain so we did just fine. I even managed to lasso a pole, so all was good.
Dinner on the boat and early to bed.
Pictures are of one of the few barges we have seen going North and the other is to make you all jealous of the beautiful water and calm day we had.
Till tomorrow......
