JUNE 2, 2007...Deltaville, Va.

Another short cruising day, but another new river on the Chesapeake. We left the York River in the morning for the Rappahannock River. When we think of rivers our ideas are something like the Blanchard or Maumee. However, the Rappahannock is 3 miles wide at its mouth and navigable 93 miles or so up to Fredericksburg. We ran well off shore most of the way to avoid shallow water and crab pots; we did see a few plus some fish traps.

The lighthouse was named Wolf Trap and was about two miles off shore. The water dropped from 30 feet to 6 feet near the lighthouse. The lighthouse keeper really earned his pay here. No yard and no communication.

Deltaville is on the south bank at the entrance to the Rappahannock river, and since it was early in the day we cruised about 10 miles up the river to the Tides Inn. The marina had been recommended by friends at Gulf Harbour. It has a golf course and resort amenities. However, we decide to return to Deltaville and stay at Dozier Regatta Point Marina.This a marina owned and operated by the publisher of Waterguides cruising manuals. It is one of the best facilites we have stayed at even though they do not have a fuel dock. We will try to get some pictures on tomorrows log.

Deltaville is a town of 800 residents and 3000 boats. The biggest store is West marine and they have two of them. We did use the courtesy car and toured the "main" street. As always we stopped at West Marine and the True Value Hardware store. True Value even sold sports clothing. You can always find something to buy, and we did.

ML and Marilyn found a little shop called Lattitudes and fell in love with it. Everything the bigger cities have to offer in 1000 sq. ft. We then drove down by the marinas, looking for the restaurant Cocomo. While in the area we saw the latest in summer cottages. They are floating cottages that they put in a boat slip and you can have your boat right across from your house slip. Dave mentioned that Lake Front in Port Clinton may be offering this set up. Hope they have pump out slip side since the house has no motor.

Dinner was on the boat and was steak and beer steamed fresh shrimp. The girls out did themselves. A few card games, and Dave and I retired as champs to watch the Cav.s and Pistons. How about those Cav's?

Looks like we will be hold up here on Sunday, since they predict tropical storm Berry will hit us with 2/4 inches of rain and some high winds. Not a problem...we will leave on Monday...maybe!!
