June 17, 2007 Day in port at Cape May

Happy Father's Day to all the dads. We started our day with hard labor. Craig washed the boat and I did all the ironing. Three hours of it!!! A marina staff member came by with a gift bag and newspaper for us. The bag contained a fresh apple, two pears, an orange and some candy.

After a quick breakfast we went into the town of Cape May. The man in the boat next to us gave us the keys to his truck and told us to feel free to use it. We decided to take advantage of his generosity.

We visited the beach and the Cape May lighthouse. It seemed strange to see tall lighhouses once again. Those in the Chesapeake were entirely different.

Seems like every town we visit has an art festival. This was no exception. We did however pass on it this time. If you've seem one art festival...you've seen them all.

We also drove past some of the old Victorian homes and finally hit the grocery store. Believe it or not the parking lot for the grocery store is a paid parking facility. You get one half hour free and if you get your grocery receipt stamped you get a second half hour. After that you pay to grocery shop. Go figure!!!

We went into the five and dime store with the ice cream fountain in the back. Oh the memories!!! We have included a picture of the church in town as well. All in all it made for a very nice afternoon.

We came back to the boat and decided to go to the Lobster House. It was highly recommended by the staff here and they called ahead for us. They take no reservations, but give people at the Canyon Club and Marina some special treatment. We gladly accepted it and were in the door and seated in 15 minutes. The wait was 1-1 1/2 hours. Not sure dinner was worth that long of a wait, but it was pretty good.

Back to the boat and the captain is working on future dockage and plotting the next few days course. Sure is great to be the first mate who just sits with a chart book in my hands and follows the course he has done all the work on.
