JUNE 21, 2007...NYC
Some great pictures will have to wait until we get a better connection. We keep getting kicked off by Alltel.
We left Atlantic City at 6:00am to catch as much smooth water as possible. We enter the Atlantic and for about 40 miles we had 2 foot swells and a moderate chop out of the west. When we got Manasquan we went in to shore (about a quarter mile off shore) since the water was 30-50 feet deep. We found smooth water, and also a lot of fisherman and fish traps.
We entered NYC harbor at around 10:00am and what a sight. Statue of Liberty to port and Manhatten on the starboard. ML must of shot 40 pictures, running back and forth. The harbor was easy to navigate and was less of a problem than Miami. There were some large ships but there is a lot of deep water outside the channels so they were easy to avoid.
We fueled and pumped out, and docked at Liberty Landing Marina. We had a lot of jocking of docks, but we ended up on the main dock in a real tight space, but very convenient. It seems to be a busy marina for boat dealers...Marine Max plus three others have new boats on display...as well as a lot of cruise ships are in and out.
We did a little exploring, cleaned the salt off the boat, and planned dinner on the boat. We got hit with a strong rain storm and watch it blow through NYC. It was so dark the city and all the lights disappeared. It was beautibul in an erie sort of a way.
We plan to spend 3 or 4 days here and enjoy the sights. Plus weekend travel when the weather is good is not worth it. Even though this the most expensive marina we've been in (4.40/foot/night) the ferry to Manhatten leaves from the marina and the Ferry to the Statue of Liberty is only a 10 minute walk along the Hudson River.
NYC may be more fun than we thought. Sorry Dave and Jodi couldn't have joined us...however they are at our place in Florida.
