JUNE 23, 2007...NYC

We played tourists today...all day.

We caught the ferry to Manahattan from our marina at around 10:30. It dropped us off at the finanical district and it was a short walk to ground zero. We listened in on a guide who was a fireman tell his story, and how he saw it unfold. He lost 41 fireman from his company. It is hard to see the area, since they have begun rebuilding a new set of towers, not as tall as the original towers. We did get a couple of peaks through the fence and the best view was on the overhead crosswalk near Vessy Street. They still are removing some of the old subway buildings as the pile shows.

From here we caught the subway to 33rd street and went to the Empire State Building and up to the 86th floor observation deck. It was a clear day and the view was great. We got suckered into the movie and disney type ride, which ML skipped since her last experience made her motion sick.

We walked up to 42nd street and Time Square. It was a mass of people, mostly Asian tourists taking pictures. We did the same! We found a little Irish pub, O'Lunny's on 45th street and had luinner(lunch/dinner). The cold beer was the best part, although the food was pretty good. We need sister-in-law Paula to help us order.

Now to get home! We found the subway, bought our tickets and entered the station like we knew what we were doing. However, we jumped on the wrong train and headed for Flushing, instead of downtown. 2 stops later we got off and caught a train back to our starting point. What we failed to notice, it is a double-decker train station and we should be up one level. All ended well as rode the train to the World Trade Center and then caught our water taxi back home.

Our feet and backs are killing us, and I think we have had enough of NYC.
